NCEA Level 2 Mathematics
Although this years timetables are yet to be finalised, course selection is now finished. Any changes to student courses will now take place next year.
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs H. Cason.
In the 12MAT Mathematics course, students continue to develop new skills in algebra, graphs, trigonometry and probability methods. Calculus is introduced as a new branch of mathematics.
This course aims to further develop problem-solving and logical thinking skills, and will equip students with a variety of strategies for investigating real life situations and solving problems. Students successfully completing the course will be equipped with the mathematical knowledge and skills to enable them to continue their study of Mathematics and subjects containing mathematical applications, such as Physics, at higher levels in the future.
Although this course is foundational to Level 3 Calculus, it is aimed at all students who have an aptitude for mathematics and wish to extend their thinking and problem-solving skills, as it offers a pathway to Level 3 Calculus (13MAC), Level 3 Mathematics and Statistics (13MAS) or Level 3 Statistics and Modelling (13STAT).
