Students will integrate research and critically analyse dramatic presentations, techniques and conventions.

As they participate in and interpret their own and others’ drama, students develop cognitive skills and gain understandings about themselves and their wider communities. They investigate the forms, styles, and contexts of drama and recognise that it can affirm or challenge attitudes and values. They work collaboratively to develop ideas, to express feelings, to experiment with sound and action within a dramatic space, and to reflect on live and recorded drama.

Subject Overview

Term 1
91512 Interpret scripted text to integrate drama techniques. This is individually assessed.
Students will be assessed individually on their ability to interpret their extract and integrate drama techniques effectively in their performance. The character portrayal and interpretation of the extract should be consistent with the themes and ideas of the whole play.

Term 2
91517 Perform a substantial acting role in a significant production. This is group assessed but the grade is indiviually derived.
This activity requires students to develop and sustain a substantial acting role in a significant production for an audience.
Each student will be assessed individually on his or her ability to perform, skilfully and effectively, a substantial acting role in the production. This includes preparing for and sustaining the role, as rehearsed, appropriately through the production.

Term 3
91513 Devise and perfom a drama to realise a significant production. This can be group or individually assessed.
This activity requires students to devise and perform a drama to realise a concept. The students provide a statement of intention that outlines their concept for the drama.
In practical workshops, the students should explore a range of elements and conventions that result in performed improvisations. These explorations and improvisations will help the students decide on textual conventions and technologies that can assist them in the performance of their devised drama.

Term 4
91518 Demonstrate understanding of live performance.
