Although this years timetables are yet to be finalised, course selection is now finished. Any changes to student courses will now take place next year.

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs A. Exelby.

The Gateway programme is designed to strengthen the pathway between school and the workplace, helping students gain confidence in making the transition from school to work.   Students learn employability skills in addition to focusing on a career of interest to them.

Prerequisite: Entry to this course is by interview with the Gateway Co-ordinator.  Students will work with the Gateway Co-ordinator to determine a specific career focus they are interested in learning about.

Assessment: Students complete Level 3 Unit Standard credits and a work experience placement of 5-10 days - relevant to their identified career focus.

During Gateway classes, students work on employment and industry based Unit Standards.

Students usually attend their work experience placement one day per week for 5-10 weeks, however, this is flexible depending on the availability of the employer and needs of the student.  Placements usually commence in Term 1 or 2, with the aim of being completed by the end of Term 3.   It is also possible to complete work experience in the school holidays.

Students also attend a two-day First Aid course during term time.
