12MAS

NCEA Level 2 Mathematics with Statistics

Although this years timetables are yet to be finalised, course selection is now finished. Any changes to student courses will now take place next year.

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs H. Cason.

Mathematics and Statistics includes mathematical thinking and statistical procedures, which will extend a student’s abilities to tackle simple modelling and problem-solving situations.  The course focuses on Research, Data Analysis and Interpretation. It will be useful for students interested in Education, Business, Physical Education, Psychology, Management or the Social Sciences where Statistics is required as a supporting subject.

This course is a combination of Level 2 Mathematics and Level 2 Statistics standards, and also includes a Level 3 Statistics standard. It has been designed for students who have not met the entry requirements for the Level 2 Mathematics course (12MAT), but would like to continue with Mathematics rather than a pure Statistics course at Level 2.

Students doing 12MAS require competence in the Level 1 mathematical skills obtained from the 11MAT course.

Students taking 12MAS will continue to develop and extend their mathematical reasoning through algebra, geometry and statistics, and also develop new skills in probability, trigonometry and networks. The course is suited to students who prefer the option of more internal assessments, as there is only one external standard.
