Subject Description

Do you see yourself as a business tycoon, a financial sleuth or a public guardian? Then Y11 Accounting is where you start.
By the end of the course, you will have learnt how to:
- prepare an annual report for a sole trader business,
- give the owner advice on how to improve their results, and
- use Microsoft Excel to process financial transactions.
Subject Overview
Term 1
Cornerstones
What you learn about here will underpin all future learning in Accounting. By the end of this unit you will be able to:
- explain and define the Accounting Equation,
- prepare simple financial statements, and
- understand the underpinning concepts and notions of Accounting.
Term 2
Cash Crunching
In this unit of work, you will learn how to use Microsoft Excel to perform calculations and complete accounting functions. Your knowledge of financial elements and the accounting process will be extended and you will confidently prepare accounting records for a sole trader business.
Term 3
Cash Chronicles
Telling the story of the financial life of a sole trader business is at the heart of this unit. You will become expert at:
- Adjusting a Trial Balance,
- Preparing a set of financial statements for a sole trader, and
- Using cashflows to make a financial decision.
Term 4
Cash Compass
Being able to explain the financial statements to a business owner is one of the core roles of the accountant. That, along with giving expert advice and encouragement. In this unit of work, you will become a competent business advisor by applying simple mathematics to financial results. You will learn to write professionally so that your client understands how their business is performing and how to improve over time.
Prior Learning
There is no prior learning required. We simply expect you to be diligent and hardworking.
